The following specs were carefully collected and recorded by a skilled technician. For a more detailed description and questions regarding sound, feel, or cosmetic condition, please call to speak to one of our experts.

Summary

Finish: Original finish.

Body Material: Maple Body

Top Material: Maple Top

Body Details: Maple back, sides, and top. A small section of binding on the bass side of the neck pocket as been glued back in place.

Neck Material: Maple Neck

Neck Profile: U

Neck Thickness (IN): 1st fret .869″, 10th fret .945″

Fingerboard Radius: 12.00″

Nut Width: 1-11/16″

Scale Length: 24 5/8″

Neck Details: Maple neck with bound ebony fingerboard and thumbnail inlays. The frets from the twelfth fret up are slightly angled. In the 60’s, Gretsch referred to this as “T-Zone,” and was marketed as an improvement for intonation in the higher register. There is a hairline crack in the back of the neck towards the upper portion, and clear coat is flaking off of the back of the neck.

Electronics: Original electronics and pickups. Amp selector switch with coil selector switches, tone switches, and volume controls for both pickups. The amp selector switch (on treble side horn) functions as follows:the pickups are in stereo in the up position, both in one amp in the middle position, and both pickups in both amps in the down position. This guitar requires a stereo Y cable to be fully functional. All solder joints are untouched. Both pot codes date to 1965.

Pickup Measurements: Wiring makes accurate readings not possible.

Hardware: Original hardware. The foam on the mutes is shrunken.

Weight: 10 lbs

Cosmetic Condition: This guitar is in good condition with wear consistent with its age and models of the period. The clear coat has yellowed, with areas of wear to the white base coat underneath. There are lots of small scratches, dents, and dings throughout. The hardware has a strong patina. The binding has shrunk in the f-holes and is detached in some areas. The binding has shrunk on the headstock as well, separating from the headstock overlay on the lower bass side corner. There is a hairline crack in the back of the neck towards the upper portion, and clear coat is flaking off of the back of the neck.

Modifications/Repairs: A small piece of binding on the bass side of the neck pocket has been glued back in place.

Tech Notes: The guitar plays well with low action. The frets are narrow and medium height, with mild wear. The serial number dates in the 1964 range, but both pots date to 1965, this is most likely an early 1965 model.

Case Details: Original hardshell case.
